Healthy Oakland Partnership Hosts Family Market Day

In an effort to educate the public on healthier, active ways to live, the Healthy Oakland Partnership will host a Family Market Day.
This event will be held at the Oakland County Farmer’s Market, 2350 Pontiac Lake Road, Waterford on Saturday, August 22, 2009; 10:00 am – 2:00 pm and is to provide experiences and information that will help kids and families achieve better nutrition and increase physical activity.
The goal of this event will help achieve the goal of reducing obesity through better nutrition and physical activity by:
- Getting families interested in farmers’ markets;
- Increasing awareness of fresh produce and its local availability;
- Improving understanding of transportation options to farmers’ markets;
- Motivate families to participate in physical activity.
This event will feature Oakland County Parks and Recreation physical activity mobile units, as well as two obstacle courses and biking station. Additionally, participants will enjoy yoga, interactive sporting activities, prizes and giveaways.
