Pontiac, MI—St. Joseph Mercy Oakland (SJMO) invites women with triple negative breast cancer to participate in a clinical trial through Saint Joseph Mercy Health System at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, 44405 Woodward Ave., Pontiac.  St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor also is participating in the trial.

The trial is to test a novel drug in the treatment of an aggressive form of breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast.  The hospitals seek women with advanced breast cancer to test an experimental targeted drug, BSI 201.  When used with traditional chemotherapy that damages the cancer cell’s DNA, the trial drug selectively blocks a cancer cell’s ability to repair itself and causes the cancer cell to die.

To participate in the trial, patients must have: metastatic triple negative breast cancer; have completed no more than two rounds of chemotherapy treatment and have disease that is measurable on an imaging study.
